Majestic Award
Four years ago, a new
award was put into place to join the others that have now become an important tradition at
Look up the word
majestic in the dictionary and youll find the following description: grand, noble,
dignified. The two people we choose to honor
tonight with this special award are two of the most hardworking individuals at the track.
I would venture to guess
that the majority of you in attendance do not know of them and many of you probably
wont even recognize them when they come forward.
They do more of the behind the scenes work than probably anyone else. In fact, unfortunately what they do is just taken
for granted.
The first year when
Vicki owned the speedway, this husband and wife couple and lifelong racing fans came out
of the grandstands after the races and offered their services. Little did they know seven years later
theyd still be here with us doing the little things that keep The Park in tiptop
shape.
If you drive past the
track the Sunday morning following a race, youll see Mr. Turner somewhere on the
grounds picking up garbage and Mrs. Turners up in the VIP suites scrubbing and cleaning
the floors and windows. No one realizes what a
long and tiring job this is.
During the week, Mr.
Turner can be found doing just about any maintenance task that needs done whether its weed
whacking, fixing something, painting, you name it. On
race night theyre around checking to make sure everything is going okay whether it
be taking out garbage, checking the toilets, restocking toilet paper or the like.
These two hard working
individuals make the drive down from Cochranton and are no young whippersnappers either as
Ken is 73 and Charlene is nearly 70.
Its people like
the Turners that dont get recognized and sometimes are forgotten, but we wanted to
take a moment and give them some recognition that they so deserve.
Ken and Charlene please come forward to receive The Majestic Award.
