The first award
has been put in place to recognize outstanding achievements or accomplishment throughout
the past season.
The second
Outstanding Achievement is being awarded to a driver for what could be called
a near perfect season.
At any level
its consistency that wins championships. Finishing
races and being there at the end goes a long way toward a championship. If you told this driver he would finish every race
he entered, and not only just finish, but place in the top 7 every feature, he
probably would have told you thats impossible.
But that is
exactly what our 2004 Sportsman Modified Champion did.
Right out of the box he finished runner-up on opening night, won on week
two, and followed that with a third place the following week, which set the tone for the
season. In fact, it wasnt until August
14 that he finished outside the top 5 and it wasnt far out as he placed 7th
that night. He came right back the following
week with a runner-up and finished the year with a $600 win on September 11.
The only
disappointment Im sure our champion would tell you is he only won two races and five
months separated those two victories. However,
lets not forget that Mercer uses a handicap lineup system and his averaging starting
position was 9th spot.
You all know who our 2004 Sportsman Modified Champion is so its no secret who this award is going to. Jeff Schaffer had an amazing season and we just wanted reinforce how great it was by awarding him our second Outstanding Achievement Award.
