2004 Outstanding Achievement Award

The first award has been put in place to recognize outstanding achievements or accomplishment throughout the past season.

The first “Outstanding Achievement” Award goes to one of our drivers, but his accolades tonight won’t be from his driving accomplishments.  Ask anyone that has won or been involved in a championship team and they’ll tell you how much blood, sweat, and tears go into such an effort.

To win back-to-back titles like Troy Preston and Tommy Kristyak have done in recent years is certainly an accomplishment that very few will ever get to experience.  It was the great basketball coach Pat Riley that coined and trademarked the term “three-peat” in the late 80s for his great Los Angeles Lakers squad- something they even failed short of in the championship game.

To win four titles, let alone four straight, is unheard of.  Don’t tell that to Jim Rombold.  The 1996 Big-Block Modified Championship Car Owner for Jeff Schaffer has built the championship engine the last four straight years in the Sportsman Modified division.

He propelled Steve Young to two dominating seasons in 2001 and 2002, was the power behind Jerry Schaffer’s first ever title in 2003, and this year helped Jeff Schaffer win his second track title and first in the sportsman division.

We wanted to take the time to recognize an accomplishment that we didn’t want to go unnoticed to a person that has been a strong supporter of Mercer Raceway Park over the years.

Jim Rombold please come forward to accept this accomplishment on behalf of your staff at CJ Rombold Engine Builders.
