Majestic Award

Four years ago, a new award was put into place to join the others that have now become an important tradition at Mercer Raceway Park….The Majestic.

Look up the word majestic in the dictionary and you’ll find the following description: grand, noble, dignified.

I would venture to guess that the majority of you in attendance do not know of them and many of you probably won’t even recognize them when they come forward.  For the third straight year we honor a dependable husband/wife tandem.

They are two of the earliest employees to arrive and most times are some of the last to leave.  They didn’t start out as race fans and probably still aren’t the biggest.  They started out as family now they’ve become part of the “Mercer family”.

You may know Vicki’s uncle as the one with the friendly smile at the pit pass window and her aunt by her friendly voice on the phone.  Walter started in 2001 and Eleanore in 2002, now they are two of the most dependable and well-liked employees at The Park.

Eleanore has turned her office into a homey look and is there long after most are gone counting and depositing money.  She usually greets our employees with some sort of food or dessert almost every week.

It’s the little people behind the scenes like Walter and Eleanore Patton that help keep The Park going that most will never be aware of.  For this reason, we wanted to honor the two with the 2006 “Majestic Award” for their great service to Mercer Raceway Park.

Walter and Eleanore please come forward to receive your award.
