2008 Majestic Award

Seven years ago, a new award was put into place to join the others that have now become an important tradition at Mercer Raceway Park….The Majestic.

Look up the word majestic in the dictionary and you’ll find the following description: grand, noble, dignified.  This year’s recipients are a husband-wife team that have been an important part of Mercer Raceway Park over the past decade.

The misses is blessed with a skill that is quickly becoming a lost art.  How difficult do you think it is to keep track of over 100 race cars per night by recording each lap they have competed with very little, if any, errors?  Consider 24 Sprint Cars flying past your vision at over 100 miles per hour for 20 laps without a stop.  Make sure you write down each and every number in order correctly or you will be sure to receive a rash of verbal abuse at the end of the night from an extremely unhappy driver.

Mister finds his way to the pit area each and every night and sees before him a sea of race cars.

What a fun night for him as his main responsibilities for the night are to insure fair tech procedures needed to maintain a level and competitive field, along with intricate car inspections critical for the drivers safety. 

Add in inquiring phone calls during the week, disgruntled racers when you tell them that is not how you interpret the gray area, and being one of the last souls to leave the pits each night. 

Isn’t that what you and your wife always imagined Saturday night date nights to be like?

Well ladies and gentlemen that is exactly how Randy and Joyce Myers have spent their precious Saturday nights throughout the last 10 years.

Randy is a shining example of the new regime of track officials that Vicki has brought to Mercer Raceway Park.  He is considered to have reached the top of his field and has earned the respect of hundreds of drivers and car owners throughout western Pennsylvania and eastern Ohio.

Tonight we’re sorry to report that they look forward to spending a normal Saturday night together doing whatever it is they choose to do…what do you think it will be…dinner out, a movie…or hey Randy perhaps a high-stakes poker game or pool tournament!

Whatever they decide we are thankful they chose to be part of our family for so many years.  We wish them great fun, good luck, and wonderful adventures in the future.
