Living Legend

Living Legends are those that will forever be held in high respect by those that enjoyed their excellence.  Think of our six past recipients, Buddy Cochran, Ralph Quarterson, Ed Schaffer, Vic George, Mike Kristyak, and Keith Morrow and I’m sure the memories they gave us all will immediately encompass your thoughts.

These people stand above the rest for their accomplishments, abilities, and the images they portray the moment you hear their names.

Though this year’s Living Legend recipient doesn’t rank amongst the top winners at The Park, his legacy will remain for years and years to come.  His final season was 1999 and the following year he turned the wheel over to his son, who went on to win the 2000 Sportsman Modified Championship.

His colorful, charming personality and exuberant enthusiasm is still with us every week.  He’ll never shy away from telling you what he thinks and believes, but who would expect anything different from a man known as “Skinny”?

Those powder blue #B2 coupes powered by Mopars will long be remembered by Mercer loyalists.  A Saturday night at Mercer without Skinny just wouldn’t seem right no matter what role it’s in.   Now he splits his time with his son Rick’s Big Daddy Speed Center and his #B2 358 Modified, which finished 4th in points with a win.

Never a harsh word about anyone else nor is one ever directed toward him; he’s respected and appreciated by just about everyone in the pit area.

Jack “Skinny” Hall is certainly an icon in the history of Mercer and we felt it only necessary to award him with our Living Legend Award.

“Skinny,” as he always is at this time of the year is in Florida, so Rick and Tom Paxton will you please come forward to receive this award in recognition of Skinny.
