2003 Legacy Award

A legacy is a gift from a predecessor or the past.  This award holds special meaning to the Emig Family, as it is put in place to honor and remember the late Bill Emig.  It is his love of racing and people in general that has now laid the foundation that is now in place at Mercer Raceway Park.

To know that Bob Felmlee won his 100th and final sprint car race at Mercer Raceway Park, that the speedway was part of Jimmy Hawley’s 1999 tri-track championship season, Lou Blaney’s next-to-last lap pass of Billy Decker, are all moments that legacies are built upon and the Legacy Award has honored.

This year’s winner accomplished a feat that may be unique to perhaps only one track in the United States, or course that being Mercer Raceway Park.

To have the honor of holding one track record in the sprint car division- considered by many to be one of the nation’s premier divisions is obviously an achievement.  Now let’s take this a few steps further.

One…This recipient hold two track records in this thrilling divisions, both of which came in just a short period of time.

Two…The track records came while competing against two of the nation’s premier sprint car divisions- URC & the All Star Circuit of Champions.

And three…guess what folks…she’s a lady!

Bill Emig had all the faith in the world in women- building his business throughout the years with his wife Ruth, worshipping the ground his daughters walked on, and now proudly watching down each and every Saturday night as they together manage and promote Mercer Raceway Park.

It seems only fitting that now a women stands among the men as part of this elite group that have accomplished outstanding and memorable moments at The Park.

We are very proud to present the prestigious “Legacy Award” to Miss. Erin Crocker!
