This year a new award will be put in place to join the others that have now become an important tradition at Mercer Raceway Park…. The Majestic.
Look up the word majestic in the dictionary and you will find the following description: grand, noble, dignified. The people we chose to honor with this special award tonight and into the future are those that have made grand, noble, and dignified gestures on behalf of Mercer Raceway Park and general.
We are extremely lucky to know that these type of people at any time can grace our presence at Mercer Raceway Park. Two people have been chosen as the inaugural recipients of The Majestic.
On September 11, an event took place that will forever change the fabric of our nation’s history, as a tragedy unsurpassed by any other that most of us can remember had just occurred. This date was also four days prior to the 5th Annual Chuck Marsh Memorial, and a stunned nation tried to decide how and when to return to normalcy. No decision had been more important to make to date by the management of Mercer Raceway Park. After heart-felt consideration and counseling from respected individuals, a decision was made to race on September 15.
How much easier that decision would have been if we could have only seen into the future. Decisions had already been made to utilize the event as a way to raise funds for the 9-11 victims and their families, and over $2,500 was graciously raised throughout the facility that night.
At approximately 10 o’clock that evening, Jimmy Hawley pulled into victory lane to claim what appeared to be his $5,000 prize. Minutes later as Jimmy conducted his winning interview, he announced that his car owners, Dr. John and Debbie Crawford, would graciously donate the $5,000 victims to 9-11. A truly majestic gesture!
Doc & Debbie Crawford would you please come forward to receive the recognition you so rightfully deserve.
